Ehsan Fereshtehnejad joins Bridge Intelligence as a senior data scientist.

Updated: May 23, 2022

Ehsan Fereshtehnejad, Ph.D., joined Bridge Intelligence (BI) as a Senior Data Scientist. Before joining BI, he was a Bridge Management Engineer at the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for almost two years. He worked on multiple projects related to life cycle optimization of bridges and culvert during this time: He developed VDOT's Bridge Management Systems Application, a computer program that automatically determines optimal repair plans for bridge components to minimize bridge networks' life cycle cost. He has several years of experience developing data-driven solutions to minimize life cycle risks for aging transportation infrastructure against natural disasters.

Ehsan received his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the Ohio State University and has one year of experience as a postdoctoral researcher at Rice University, where he developed frameworks regarding transportation network resilience against repeated floods. During his Ph.D. studies, he collaborated with the Ohio Department of Transportation and developed a cost-based health index for bridges, called Ohio Bridge Condition Index, together with an element-level optimal budget allocation framework based on this index. Ehsan also has a master's degree in Earthquake Engineering. Ehsan plans to implement all his knowledge at BI to develop intelligent computer programs that systematically enhance the safety, resilience, and serviceability of transportation infrastructures.
